Motor Accidents For motor accidents ensure that the following details are obtained at the time of the accident: • Details regarding the third party e.g., name, ID number, address, phone numbers, car registration numbers, insurance company and policy reference number etc. – failure to obtain this information can seriously prejudice your ability to recover your outlays. • Contact details for any witnesses including full name, address and telephone number. • Report to the police immediately if anyone involved has suffered personal injury • Diagram of the accident scene. » Note time of day, weather and condition of road (wet, dry, slippery, etc.) » Show positions of all vehicles involved in the accident. » Write down the details, which you feel are important. • If your car cannot be driven arrange for it to be towed to the nearest repairer. If you have ARAG Breakdown & Legal Protection insurance call ARAG on +34 91 325 52 48 or 902 10 76 49 • If your vehicle can be driven – see "Repair of Your Vehicle" below • Take all practical and reasonable steps to prevent further damage and/or loss. • If there is no damage to your vehicle but there is possible damage to the third party vehicle, the incident must still be reported to us.
After taking care of everything at the scene, notify
your insurance intermediary immediately, complete and submit both
sides of the European Accident Statement form
provided, with your policy documents, together with: If necessary we will arrange for an engineer to inspect your vehicle. It is normal for the engineer to authorise repairs following the inspection. Please note that YOU must liaise with the garage to determine when and how long the repairs will take. Once repairs are complete, you will be required to sign a discharge form (this will be provided at the garage). Please ensure that you thoroughly check your vehicle before signing the discharge form. You will also be required to pay any excess to the garage. The balance will be invoiced directly to us. Note: If you elect not to claim
under your policy and you wish to claim against the third party, your
claim will be dealt with through ARAG . If you have not
taken up the Breakdown and Legal Protection insurance,
you (NOT your insurer) will be responsible for claiming against the third
party. If you have Third Party Only cover and you are NOT to blame for the accident – under your Third Party Only policy you are NOT covered for the damage that has been caused to your vehicle. However, if you have purchased Breakdown and Legal Protection insurance from ARAG, ARAG will provide assistance with recovery from the third party. Note: Car hire charges are not
covered under the terms of your policy. If you wish to hire a car during
the repair of your vehicle you must pay for this yourself. This additional cover will assist you in recovering your uninsured losses such as your policy excess, personal injury compensation. In the case of third party only cover claims where the third party is at fault, ARAG will pursue the recovery for the damage caused by the third party. If you are NOT to blame for the accident and
you have Breakdown & Legal Protection insurance
and you want to claim for any uninsured losses, you should submit your
claim form together with all necessary details (see "Motor
Accidents" above) to your insurance intermediary. Your insurance
intermediary will pass all relevant details to ARAG. Alternatively
