Motor Accidents

For motor accidents ensure that the following details are obtained at the time of the accident:

•  Details regarding the third party e.g., name, ID number, address, phone numbers, car registration numbers, insurance company and policy reference number etc. – failure to obtain this information can seriously prejudice your ability to recover your outlays.

• Contact details for any witnesses including full name, address and telephone number.

• Report to the police immediately if anyone involved has suffered personal injury

• Diagram of the accident scene.
         »  Note time of day, weather and condition of road (wet, dry, slippery, etc.)
         »  Show positions of all vehicles involved in the accident.
         »  Write down the details, which you feel are important.

•  If your car cannot be driven arrange for it to be towed to the nearest repairer. If you have ARAG Breakdown & Legal Protection insurance call ARAG on +34 91 325 52 48 or 902 10 76 49

• If your vehicle can be driven – see "Repair of Your Vehicle" below

• Take all practical and reasonable steps to prevent further damage and/or loss.

• If there is no damage to your vehicle but there is possible damage to the third party vehicle, the incident must still be reported to us.
Never admit liability, no matter how "guilty" you feel - merely advise the third party "I will report the claim to my Insurers who will handle the matter on my behalf". If you do not understand what a third party has written on the claim form - DO NOT SIGN IT.

After taking care of everything at the scene, notify your insurance intermediary immediately, complete and submit both sides of the European Accident Statement form provided, with your policy documents, together with:
• A copy of the driver's driving licence, including the endorsements section (UK licences only).
• Any other information/documentation you have in support of your claim.


Repair and Recovery

Comprehensive Cover
If you have comprehensive cover and wish to make a claim under your policy, you should obtain a written estimate of your damage and submit the estimate to your insurance intermediary. Please note that Ibex (with the exception of the Costa del Sol region where the 355 Crash Repair Centre in Estepona is the approved repair garage) do not operate a network of approved repairers. The choice of garage and any work carried out on your vehicle is solely your responsibility.

If necessary we will arrange for an engineer to inspect your vehicle. It is normal for the engineer to authorise repairs following the inspection. Please note that YOU must liaise with the garage to determine when and how long the repairs will take.

Once repairs are complete, you will be required to sign a discharge form (this will be provided at the garage). Please ensure that you thoroughly check your vehicle before signing the discharge form.

You will also be required to pay any excess to the garage. The balance will be invoiced directly to us.

Note: If you elect not to claim under your policy and you wish to claim against the third party, your claim will be dealt with through ARAG . If you have not taken up the Breakdown and Legal Protection insurance, you (NOT your insurer) will be responsible for claiming against the third party.

Third Party Only
If you have Third Party Only cover and you are to blame for the accident – you are not covered for damages that you have caused to your vehicle and you will therefore need to seek and pay for your own repairs.

If you have Third Party Only cover and you are NOT to blame for the accident – under your Third Party Only policy you are NOT covered for the damage that has been caused to your vehicle. However, if you have purchased Breakdown and Legal Protection insurance from ARAG, ARAG will provide assistance with recovery from the third party.

Note: Car hire charges are not covered under the terms of your policy. If you wish to hire a car during the repair of your vehicle you must pay for this yourself.


Breakdown and Legal Protection Insurance

Breakdown & Legal Protection insurance provides cover for your uninsured losses (those losses not covered under your Ibex policy) in the event that you have a non-fault road traffic accident.

This additional cover will assist you in recovering your uninsured losses such as your policy excess, personal injury compensation. In the case of third party only cover claims where the third party is at fault, ARAG will pursue the recovery for the damage caused by the third party.

If you are NOT to blame for the accident and you have Breakdown & Legal Protection insurance and you want to claim for any uninsured losses, you should submit your claim form together with all necessary details (see "Motor Accidents" above) to your insurance intermediary. Your insurance intermediary will pass all relevant details to ARAG. Alternatively you can call ARAG direct on 902 10 80 82 or +34 956 695 747

If you are NOT to blame for the accident and you have Breakdown & Legal Protection insurance and you want to claim for any uninsured losses, you should submit your claim form together with all necessary details (see "Motor Accidents" above) to your insurance intermediary. NOTE: Breakdown and Legal Protection is not available in respect of Vans and Motor Homes. If you require insurance for your uninsured losses, ask your advisor for further Information.

Theft

If your vehicle is stolen:
• Immediately advise the police and obtain a police report together with the police report number.

• If your vehicle is stolen in Spain it is essential that you obtain the Court Number and Address to which your case has been referred.

• Immediately advise your insurance intermediary or call us direct on 8008 15650

• You will be required to complete and submit a Theft Report Claim Form. The form can be obtained from your insurance intermediary.

• Be prepared to wait a while in case you car is recovered. A great many cars stolen are found abandoned.

• All theft claims are thoroughly investigated. We will not pay out on the claim until our enquiries are complete.


Glass Claims

For Glass Claims:
• Call +34 902 20 70 10 for the Carglass operator. The operator will advise you of where and when to take your vehicle for repair. Check your Policy Schedule for any other possible numbers.

• Take your drivers licence, policy documents and policy receipt to the fitment centre.

• The fitment centre will contact us directly for authority to repair/ replace your windscreen.

• There is no need to complete a claim form or pay for the repair/replacement. Carglass will invoice us direct.

If you choose not to use Carglass you will be required to pay the invoice in full to the garage and you will be responsible for the first €75 of any claim. We will also require completion of the claim form.
